Osiris Powers Award-Winning Online Exhibit
04/27/2004NEW HAVEN, CT - thunkIT, a web-based application development company located in the 9th Square District of New Haven, announced that its customer Historical Society of Greenwich recently received a Wilbur Cross Award from the Connecticut Humanities Council, for its Voices of the Civil War online exhibit.
The Connecticut Humanities Council, a public, nonprofit foundation dedicated to creating opportunities for life-long learning through the humanities, created the Wilbur Cross Awards in 1984 to recognize outstanding achievement in humanities across the state.
According to a statement released at the 20th Annual Wilbur Cross Awards, the Voices of the Civil War online exhibit was awarded "Best Heritage Project" because it demonstrated a commitment to community education and outreach. Through the use of the Osiris technology, the exhibit made the Society's rich Civil War archives, collections and research accessible to teachers and students, the general public, and researchers alike.
Voices of the Civil War was developed using thunkIT's web content management technology.
"The tools available with the Osiris suite made the process of creating a dynamic website incredibly easy" explains Kirsten Jensen, content developer for Voices of the Civil War. "The flexibility of the technology allowed me to develop an exhibit that was easy to use and navigate, but not at the expense of content or visual interest."
This is the second Wilbur Cross Award received within the past two years for projects using thunkIT's web content management products. thunkIT customer Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation was also awarded the Wilbur Cross Award in 2002 for Outstanding Use of Technology, presented to the Connecticut Trust For Historic Preservation for the TownGreens.com project, a web-based heritage tourism portal. The TownGreens.com project also received a Certificate of Commendation from The American Association of State and Local History (AASLH) this same year. The AASLH Annual Awards Program is the most prestigious recognition for achievement in the preservation and interpretation of local, state and regional history.
"It is our hope that more and more organizations will be able to inspire audiences by publishing and distributing educational content through web-based technology" states Jonathan Biebesheimer, CEO of thunkIT. "Our vision is to make the technology more accessible to an increasing number of organizations concerned and committed to community education and outreach."
